Abyei Road Map Agreement
Fighting broke out in Abyei town between the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) between 13 and 20 May 2008, leaving scores of people dead and over 50,000 displaced. In an effort to resolve the conflict, the Abyei Road Map Agreement was signed by the National Congress Party and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement on 8 June 2008. The accord specifies timelines for security arrangements and repatriation of internally displaced persons as well as the establishment of an interim administration and an International Arbitration commission.
