Bangladeshis donate musical instruments to Juba university

Continuing to support education in the southern capital, the UNMIS Bangladesh Contingent donated musical instruments to the University of Juba College of Arts, Music and Drama on 25 February.

In addition to the musical instruments, which included violins, harmonicas and lutes, the contingent donated two laptops and books on the history and culture of Bangladesh.
"We have been eager to cooperate with institutions of higher education like the University of Juba," said Juba Area Commander Col. Md. Sanaul Haque.
Funds for the donations came from the contingents' own resources.
Juba University Vice Chancellor Aggery Abate expressed his gratitude, stating, "These musical instruments will go a long way in enhancing the activities of our College of Arts, Music and Drama."
The University of Juba, then comprising only 800 students and about 130 staff, transferred to Khartoum in 1989 when the north-south war intensified.
Today, the numbers have grown to approximately 35,000 students and 800 staff. Efforts are underway to relocate the university's headquarters from Khartoum to Juba.
