07 January 2016 -Promoting more participation by women in public life and finding practical solutions to address the many challenges they face, were the main topics at a UN workshop held in the country’s capital, Kabul. Around 50 people attended the day-long event, including Afghan and UN officials, along with women’s rights activists.

22 December 2015 - This week’s Afghanistan Emrooz focuses on the activities of two afghan human rights activist as role models: Ms. Afifa Maroof and Mr. Abdul Wodud Pedram. The programme describes their UN-backed activities as well as the importance for bringing positive change to their communities. UNAMA’s Human Rights Unit, as part of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, pursues an overall strategy to ensure the protection and promotion of human rights in Afghanistan or “human rights everywhere all the time for everyone” in support of all Afghan people.

21 December 2015 - The most important development that would enable Afghanistan to continue to face its substantial economic, security and political challenges would be identifying a political path to peace, said Nicholas Haysom, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, in a briefing to the Security Council today.

15 December 2015 - This week’s Afghanistan Emrooz focuses on achievements and challenges in the area of children’s rights in Afghanistan. It discusses key activities undertaken in relation to the issue children’s rights over the past 14 years. The programme also discusses recommendations offered by human rights activists and UNAMA’s human rights unit for further improvement and advancements of children’s rights in this country.

17 November 2015 - The fourth and final episode in a series of special ‘Afghanistan Emrooz’ radio programmes celebrating the unique partnership between Afghans and the United Nations, as part of the UN 70th anniversary celebrations, is broadcast this week. This episode highlights the work of Afghan professionals working in the areas of cultural heritage and environmental protection: Habib Noori, Director of the Afghanistan Cultural Heritage Consulting Organization, along with Kobra and Naikbakht, Park Rangers at Bamyan’s Band-e-Amir National Park.
