Nairobi, 5 December 2025 – The Office of the UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes region held a briefing with members of the Diplomatic Community present in Kenya to discuss ongoing peace processes and the UN Great Lakes Strategy.
During the session, the Office provided an update on current peace efforts across the Great Lakes region and outlined the UN’s engagements in support of dialogue, stability, and cooperation among countries. A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the UN Great Lakes Strategy Plan of Action 2025–2027, which sets out flagship initiatives aimed at consolidating peace, preventing conflict, and fostering regional integration.
The exchange offered an opportunity for diplomats to gain insights into the priorities and approaches guiding the UN’s work in the region, as well as to strengthen collaboration with international partners in advancing shared objectives for peace and development.
The Office reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with regional actors and the international community to address security challenges and promote sustainable solutions for the Great Lakes region.
