Closure of OSES

The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Sahel (OSES) was established in December 2012 to lead and coordinate UN political efforts in advancing peace and development in the region. Its responsibilities were transferred to the UN Office for West Africa and the Sahel.

Good Offices

The Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) undertakes good offices in coordination with all United Nations relevant entities in support of national, regional and international efforts in the Sahel region. Acting on behalf of the Secretary-General, OSES engages in diplomatic efforts, fosters dialogue, and collaborates closely with national governments, regional organizations, and international partners. In coordination with relevant UN entities, the Office works to strengthen governance, address security challenges, and support initiatives that contributes to effective international response to the complex and interlinked challenges facing the Sahel.
