United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (DARI)

Regional Cooperation

view
UNAMA works to encourage Afghanistan and neighbouring states to engage and cooperate on mutually beneficial issues.

UNAMA is mandated by the UN Security Council to support regional cooperation, especially as an effective means to promote Afghanistan’s security, stability and socio-economic development.

The aim is to encourage Afghanistan and neighbouring states to engage and cooperate on mutually beneficial issues. The Mission uses its good offices to further these goals and assist Afghanistan in assuming and benefitting from its role at the heart of Asia, including through the multi-country Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process.

UNAMA also seeks to encourage regional partners to contribute to a stable and prosperous Afghanistan, which would in turn benefit the region’s stability and development. The Mission’s ability to understand regional processes and engage with the region is enhanced by its two liaison offices in Islamabad (Pakistan) and Tehran (Iran).
