  • 11 Jul 2010 - The Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) programme in Sudan, under which 180,000 combatants from the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army (SPLA) are to be demobilised and reintegrated into civilian life, marked a new milestone on 6 July 2010 with the launch of a third demobilisation centre in South Kordofan.

  • 01 Jun 2010 - The newly appointed UNMIS Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Moses Bisong Obi arrived in Sudan on 29 May replacing Lt. Gen. Paban Jung Thapa of Nepal who served the mission for two years. General Obi will head some 10,000 strong international peacekeeping force, which includes military observers, staff officers and force protection troops.

    30 March 2010 - Radio Miraya is launching today a drama series called "Tehed Shedjera Ardeb", meaning in simple Arabic "Under the Tamarind Tree."
  • 15 Feb 2010 - Miraya FM is officially launching today its new national and regional programme, in an effort to keep its listeners better informed and closer to the current affairs of Sudan. Three programmes of national stream, namely "Good Morning Sudan", "Sudan at Noon" and "Sudan Tonight" will broadcast news in classic and simple Arabic and English, as well as features on economy, sports, civic education and general information.
  • 15 Feb 2010 - In a joint effort between the Political Parties Affairs Council (PPAC) and UNMIS Electoral Assistance Division, and in collaboration with the National Elections Commission (NEC) and UNDP, a Workshop on "Building Confidence in Peaceful Elections" was organized today at Al Salam Rotana Hotel in Khartoum.
  • 18 Jan 2010 - Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General [Political] for Sudan arrives in Khartoum The newly appointed DSRSG for Political Affairs for Sudan Jasbir Singh Lidder of India has arrived in Khartoum yesterday to assume his responsibilities with UNMIS. Mr. Lidder's appointment to head the mission's substantive sections was announced last December by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

    Meeting in Kadugli on 3 November 2009, the DDR Roundtable Partnership acknowledged significant progress since the launch of the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) in February this year, under the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, but admitted that much was still left to be done.
