Wau

General Information:

Wau is the second largest city in Southern Sudan, on the western banks of the Jur River, and is the capital of Western Bahr el Gazal State.

 

Wau is located T 7°42’N 27°59’E, with a nice climate, compared to the rest of the country. Wau has two seasons: dry season from December to April, and rainy season the rest of the year. Altitude: 438 meters

Wau’s estimated population is 136,932 inhabitants, from various cultural backgrounds.

3 main markets are open from 8am to 5pm:

Hadjer market: on the main road, 7 minutes drive from the UN premises

Jau market: most stocked, 20 minutes from UN premises

Wau market: 15 minutes from UN premises, mostly for imported goods and groceries.

 

For food and other goods, shops are open from 7am to 10pm every day.

 

Swimming pool: membership available at River Lodge Complex.

Football Wau Stadium and Isaac stadium for daily practice (Crowded, might be accessible only for local organized groups)

Omnisport tennis, volleyball, and handball … restricted use.
