16 June - UNMIS congratulates the CPA partners for the formation of the new government

The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) congratulates the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) partners for the formation of the new government, which shoulders the historic responsibility of implementing the CPA during the final year of the Interim Period.

UNMIS hopes that the new government of the Sudan will persevere in its resolve, for achieving a stable and durable peace, by conducting credible referenda in Southern Sudan and Abyei and realizing the popular consultations in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile States. In this regard, UNMIS encourages the two partners to facilitate the timely establishment of the two referenda commissions of Southern Sudan and Abyei.

UNMIS reiterates its commitment to fully support the implementation of the CPA and its readiness to assist the parties during the coming crucial period for the people of Sudan.
