22 Ocboter - UNMIS celebrates the United Nations Day

The United Nations Day is observed worldwide on 24 October annually, through various activities and events. The UN Day commemorates the establishment of the international body to remind of the organisation's commitment to the preservation of world peace and security and helping those who are in need.

An official ceremony will take place in the morning of Sunday 25 October at Khartoum State. Officials from the Government of National Unity, representatives from the civil society, UN officials and staff will attend this ceremony. The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Sudan, Mr Ashraf Qazi, will read the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's message for the UN Day.

The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) is also holding a popular celebration of the UN Day on the evening of the same day in coordination with Rashid Diab Arts Center and the United Nations Association. Rashid Diab Arts Center will host the popular celebration where Sudanese musicians will sing to mark the UN Day. An UNMIS Representative shall attend the event which shall be witnessed by a broad range of audiences from across the spectrum of the Sudanese society.
