22 October - The killing of UNMIS Deputy Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmed Muinuddin

Statement by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sudan Ashraf Jehangir Qaazi on the killing of UNMIS Deputy Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmed Muinuddin in Pakistan.

Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Sudan, Ashraf Jehangir Qazi strongly condemns the barbaric killing of UNMIS Deputy Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmed Muinuddin while on leave in Pakistan. The SRSG extends his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the Government of Pakistan and hopes that the perpetrators responsible for this heinous act are soon brought to justice.

The SRSG notes that Brigadier Muinuddin who joined UNMIS a mere 5 months ago was a professional soldier of the highest merit and had won the esteem and respect of all his civilian and military colleagues. He leaves behind a gap that will not be easily filled.
